The longest recorded siege in history took place in North Africa between the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The Spanish-held city of Ceuta, located on the North African coast (in what is now Spanish North Africa), was under siege for more than 30 years by the forces of Moroccan Sultan Ismail Ibn Sharif.
